Hyderabad: Questioning the Congress government over the fate of aspiring medical students in the State as it continued to grapple with delays in the MBBS and BDS admission process, BRS working president, K T Rama Rao pointed out on Saturday that neighbouring states have progressed with their admissions while Telangana students face continued uncertainty.
Calling it a failure of the state government, he said the brakes on the admission process had left students and parents in a state of anxiety. The delay was seen as a significant setback for those who had pinned their hopes on pursuing medical education this year.
On the Controversial GO 33, he questioned the Congress government’s insistence on its implementation, which allegedly turned Telangana children into non-locals while giving priority to students from other states sparking widespread criticism. Questions are being raised about the government’s stand on issue thus courting legal problems as a result.
The government’s decisions are being described as the ones against the interests of the aspirants, he said that were killing the aspirations of thousands of parents who dream of seeing their children become doctors. He wanted the government to withdraw such decisions in the interest of the students in the State.
Under the BRS regime, Telangana saw a significant increase in the number of medical colleges- from a mere five in the undivided State to 29, a number that was increased further to 34, with a slogan of “Medical College for every district.” The number of MBBS seats was increased to 8,915, making the State a hub for medical education. He said that the Congress government’s current policies threatened to undermine these achievements.
Stating that the vision of KCR’s administration to make Telangana a “factory of doctors” was being eclipsed by the current government’s failures, he pointed out that the lofty goals set by the previous regime are at risk of being scuttled. He stressed the urgent need to resolve the admission process while ensuring that the aspirations of thousands of students and parents are not dashed.
