Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao and senior MLA T Harish Rao paid rich tributes to irrigation expert R Vidyasagar Rao on his death anniversary, recalling his pivotal role in Telangana’s fight for water rights.
In a statement, Rama Rao termed Vidyasagar Rao as a treasure trove of water knowledge whose contributions were instrumental in awakening people of Telangana over discrimination of the region in irrigation in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. He recalled Vidyasagar Rao’s advisory role after the State formation, during which he guided the K Chandrashekhar Rao government in designing and executing key irrigation projects.
In his honour, Rama Rao said the Telangana government named the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme after him and established a sub-market yard in his native Jajireddygudem.
Harish Rao also remembered him as the man behind Telangana’s water rights through his book titled “Neellu… Nijalu” (Water-Facts). He said Vidyasagar Rao stood firm against water injustice until his last breath. “He awakened Telangana to the truth of water exploitation and fought tirelessly for its rightful share,” he remarked.
