Kothagudem: A married man, who was set ablaze allegedly by his in-laws after dousing him with petrol at Ramachandrunipeta of Tekulapally mandal in the district, died after battling for life for nearly two weeks.
Ballem Gautham (24) of Dantalaboru village of Paloncha mandal married Ejju Kavya of Ramachandrunipeta after they fell in love with each other three years ago. The couple was living at Sujatha Nagar where Gautham worked as an electrician.
According to family members, Kavya was living at her maternal home for the last five months after a fight with her husband. On February 2, around midnight, Gautham visited his in-laws house to check on his wife and children.
Then a clash ensued between Gautham and his in-laws, who in a fit of rage poured petrol on him; set him ablaze outside the house and closed the doors. Unable to bear the pain, he started to shout for help and jumped into a water storage tank in the house.
The neighbours who got alerted with the shouts of Gautham informed his family members, who rushed to the village and took him to a hospital in Khammam. As his condition turned serious, he was shifted to MGM Hospital in Warangal, where he died undergoing treatment late on Sunday night.
