Adilabad: A court in Adilabad on Monday sentenced two persons to five years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1,000 each for attempting to murder a woman from Borigaon village in Ichoda mandal for wages under employment guarantee scheme a year back.
District court principal judge K Prabhakar Rao pronounced the verdict, awarding the term and fine against Borra Vijay Kumar and Shaik Meenaz for trying to murder Narsamma of the village for refusing to pay wages under the Employment Guarantee Act on April 20 in 2024. Narsamma managed to survive by raising an alarm.
The court cross-questioned eyewitnesses and examined pieces of evidence produced before it by public prosecutor M Madhukar. The then Echoda Sub-Inspector G Naresh booked a case and took up an investigation. He established the offence of Vijay Kumar and Meenaz.
In the meantime, Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan commended police officials and court duty officer Pandari for securing a conviction in the case.
