MCD polls: BJP’s Ram Dev Sharma, richest candidate in fray with assets over Rs 66 cr, loses to AAP
The MCD Elections saw a close fight between the AAP and the incumbent BJP, who ruled the civic body for 15 years. The AAP managed to win a decisive victory, winning 134 wards, but the outcome of the polls was a total surprise in several cases.
The Ballimaran constituency saw one such interesting contest between AAP and the BJP. The saffron party ticket holder from Ballimaran, who was the richest candidate in the MCD elections, was defeated by AAP candidate.
Ram Dev Sharms, who was BJP’s candidate from Ballimaran, is a multi-millionaire. Sharma has declared a total asset of worth over Rs 66 crore.
However, Sharma was defeated by the AAP candidate Mohd. Sadiq, who won from ward number 79 by 11,626 votes. While Sadiq got 15773 votes, Sharma was the runner up with just 4147 votes.
As per the election affidavit submitted by Sharma, he does not face any criminal cases. The BJP candidate studied till Class 8. The 65-year-old businessman has assets over Rs 66 crores and total liabilities of over Rs 8 crores, whereas Sadiq declared assets are worth less than Rs 2 crore.
Ballimaran, which is a part of Central Delhi district, Ballimaran Assembly constituency and Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency witnessed a comparatively higher voter turnout in the polling that took place on Sunday. Around 59.68 percent of the eligible voters in the ward exercised their voting right.
