The split verdict delivered a partial vindication to both his accusers and the prosecution — as well as to Weinstein — in a landmark case that had previously been thrown into uncertainty.
Weinstein’s initial conviction five years ago marked a pivotal moment for the #MeToo movement and seemed to confirm the downfall of one of Hollywood’s most powerful men. However, that conviction was overturned last year, leading to a retrial in the same Manhattan courthouse.
This time, a majority-female jury convicted the former studio boss of forcibly subjecting a woman to a criminal sex act in 2006.
