Mithun Chakraborty’s son Namashi feels the film ‘Gunda’ damaged his father’s image among the youth
In an illustrious career spanning more than 45 years, Mithun Chakraborty has starred in a number of superhit Hindi and Bengali films. The veteran actor’s son Namashi who is all set to make his big screen debut with ‘Bad Boy’ has always been inspired by his father’s showbiz journey. However, there’s one film that Namashi wishes his father could have avoided – the 1998 film ‘Gunda’ which was embroiled in controversy for its questionable storyline.
The action flick ‘Gunda’, written by Bashir Babbar and directed by Kanti Shah, also featured Mukesh Rishi and Shakti Kapoor in key roles. Despite its controversial content the film became a cult hit for its cringe dialogues and carefree nature of the protagonists, especially the raw nature of Mithun’s character.
During a recent media interaction, Mithun Chakraborty’s son Namashi was asked about one film that he wishes his father hadn’t done and the actor promptly answered that it would be ‘Gunda’ which became so infamous. Namashi feels that the film became so notorious for its content and according to him, because of ‘Gunda’, many people feel that his father is only capable of doing such kinds of films. However, the actor admits that he loves the film ‘Gunda’ for its hilarious storyline but given his father’s stature, he could have avoided the film.
Not just Namashi but Mukesh Rishi, who played the role of Bulla in ‘Gunda’, had also admitted once that he was ashamed of his dialogues in the film. During an earlier interview the actor said that Bulla’s dialogues made him feel ashamed many times since there was a mixed feeling of shame and guilt. Even after the film’s success at the box office he used to question himself why he did ‘Gunda’.
