Motor vehicle inspector and driver caught taking Rs 25,000 bribe in Nizamabad

The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Motor Vehicle Inspector Gurram Vivekananda Reddy of Armoor, Nizamabad, and his driver Nelli Thirupathi for accepting a Rs 25,000 bribe for official favours. The accused were produced before court, and further investigation is underway

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) trapped the Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) of Armoor in Nizamabad district, Gurram Vivekananda Reddy, along with his driver, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000 for official favours.

According to officials, Vivekananda Reddy and his driver, Nelli Thirupathi (53), a resident of Manakondur in Karimnagar district, were apprehended on Wednesday. The accused had demanded and accepted the bribe amount through the driver for rendering services to a complainant, which included registration of vehicles, renewal of licences and issuance of learning licences.

The duo allegedly assured the complainant that pending files would be cleared without delay. The tainted bribe amount of Rs.25,000 was recovered from Thirupathi.

The accused were produced before the II Additional Special Judge for trial of SPE and ACB cases at Nampally, Hyderabad. Officials said the case is under investigation.

The ACB urged the public to report any demand of bribe by calling the toll-free number 1064. Complaints can also be made via WhatsApp (9440446106) or on Telangana ACB’s social media platforms. The identity of complainants will be kept confidential.
