Munnuru Kapu leaders demand cabinet berth, funds

Say the previous BRS government accorded priority to the community and accommodated leaders in the cabinet

HYDERABAD: Cutting across party lines, senior Munnuru Kapu leaders, including MPs and MLAs from different parties demanded a cabinet berth for a leader from the community and implementation of 42 per cent reservation for BCs.

All the leaders held a meeting at former MP V Hanumantha Rao’s residence here on Saturday. They unanimously pointed out that this was the first time that a Munnuru Kapu leader was not part of the cabinet. In the past, the BRS government had accorded priority to the community and accommodated leaders in the cabinet, they said.

The leaders also wanted the Congress government to implement 42 percent reservation for BCs in the local bodies. The State government was trying to pass a Bill in the Assembly and send the same to Centre for amendment and implementation. Mere sending of the Bill is not sufficient and pressure has to be exerted to ensure amendments are made, the leaders opined.

The leaders also resolved to organise a mega community public meeting in Hyderabad soon. They recalled that the BRS government had allocated five acres at Kokapet for construction of the Munnuru Kapu Bhavan. The Congress government should allocate funds for construction of the bhavan and community development, they demanded.

Kova Laxman and other leaders from BJP, MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, Gangula Kamalakar, former Minister Jogu Ramana and former MLA Bajireddy Goverdhan from BRS and Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender participated in the meeting.

Government Whip Adi Srinivas, Advisor K Keshava Rao, Nethi Vidyasagar, Akula Lalitha, Bonthu Rammohan and other leaders represented the Congress at the meeting.
