Hyderabad: There have been much speculation across the country that the electric vehicle company, Tesla, is set to come to India as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently held a meeting with the company’s CEO Elon Musk.
While it is known that States like Maharashtra and Gujarat are already vying hard to bag the opportunity, this time there are reports that the Andhra Pradesh government has also joined the race.
Media reports indicate that the Andhra Pradesh government is working hard to get a Tesla electric vehicle manufacturing unit to the State. For this, the government is making sure to ensure the State has all the arrangements to make Andhra Pradesh a suitable destination for Tesla. Reports say that the State’s Economic Development Board (EDB) has highlighted its port connectivity and abundant land availability to Tesla while pitching the plan.
“The port access will help the company in importing cars. Also, if it sets up a manufacturing plant in southern Andhra Pradesh, there is a readymade ecosystem of auto companies, battery manufacturers, and ancillary manufacturers here,” a source maintained.
On the other hand, it is known that the Naidu-led government has offered several incentives to attract the automobile major. It is said that it is ready to provide the required land as well. However, it is also reported that Tesla is initially focusing on importing cars.
In October 2024, Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh met Tesla CFO Vaibhav Taneja in the US and had a discussion in this regard. The issue of setting up a plant came to the fore once again with the recent meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Elon Musk.
