Hyderabad: A staggering 3,10,660 degree seats had no takers and 74 colleges failed to attract even a single student, as per DOST 2025 first phase seat allotments released on Thursday. Government degree colleges continued to be the first choice for undergraduate education in the State, with commerce emerging as the most preferred stream this year as well.
In the first phase Degree Online Services Telangana (DOST) 2025 seat allotment released by TGCHE Chairman and DOST Convener Prof V Balakista Reddy, 89,572 candidates registered, 65,191 exercised web options and 60,436 were allotted out of 3,71,096 seats in 805 colleges.
Among all colleges, Nizam College recorded the highest seat allotment of 97.74 per cent out of 1,197 seats. None of the private unaided or aided institutions figured in the top 10 colleges with high seat allotments.
Except for the DOST topper – Vasanth Kumar who has been allocated a commerce and management seat in Nizam College – all other toppers in respective streams were women who walked away with majority of the seats.
As for gender-wise allotments, while men bagged 22,395 seats, women securing seats stood at 38,041, reflecting women domination in undergraduate education, Prof Reddy said.
All candidates who secured a seat must reserve the same through online self-reporting between May 30 and June 6. Registration along with web options will be open from May 30 to June 9 and seats will be allotted on June 13.
