Owaisi attacks Telangana CM for ignoring promises made to Muslims

Addressing a massive public meeting at the Multipurpose Ground, Asaduddin remained non-committal when the crowd exhorted him to field MIM candidates across the state. He said he would discuss the issue with party leaders and take a decision at an appropriate time.

ADILABAD: All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday came down heavily against the BRS government for not honouring its promises to Muslims, including the construction of an International Islamic Ccentre at Gachibowli.

Taking potshots at the BJP’s repeated criticism that Asaduddin controls the steering of BRS’ car (poll symbol of the BRS), he highlighted the discrimination shown by the state government when it came to extending financial support to places of worship of minorities.

Addressing a massive public meeting at the Multipurpose Ground, Asaduddin remained non-committal when the crowd exhorted him to field MIM candidates across the state. He said he would discuss the issue with party leaders and take a decision at an appropriate time.

Though he was critical of the BRS government, Asaduddin, in a subtle manner, sought to convey the message that it was only the BRS that could take on the BJP.

Asaduddin called upon the BRS government to rein in the Sangh Parivar and cautioned the government of the tough challenges ahead if it did not realise the gravity of the situation. He warned the BRS that Majlis would be forced to accelerate their own car (party) that could lead to accidents (electoral setbacks) and cause embarrassment to the ruling party in the state.

On funding of temples by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Majlis chief said over Rs 1,200 crore was spent to renovate Yadadri temple and Rs 1,000 crore assistance was announced for Kondagattu temple’ Rs 425 crore was given to Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Dubbaka’ Rs 25 crore for Hare Krishna temple coming up in Narsingi and Rs 2,500 crore for all the small and medium temples and for the welfare of archakas. “Rao promised to construct an Islamic Centre at Gachibowli long back but it is yet to take off. On the other hand, he will be inaugurating the Brahman Parishad bhavan next month,” he said adding that he was not against assistance to Hindu temples but was upset by the manner promises made to minorities were being ignored.

There was a massive response from the crowds when he spoke of the delay in Shaadi Mubarak scheme implementation. Many chorused that assistance was not forthcoming for the past two years. Asaduddin also referred to corruption in appointment of staff in government hospitals. When Asaduddin said the posts of an attender were sold for Rs 50,000 in the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Adilabad, the crowd said it was more than Rs 1 lakh that was collected for each post. On the 2BHK scheme, they corrected Asaduddin’s figure of 81 houses while stating that not even 80 houses were allotted to Muslims.

On the BRS steering being in his hands, Owaisi rebutted Union home minister Amit Shah’s comments that the new secretariat was constructed only to make him (Owaisi) happy.

He retaliated that he would have built a much more beautiful structure like Taj Mahal and Charminar than the present secretariat if the designer had consulted him for the design of the new Secretariat.
