Parallel Road Over Bridge at Falaknuma opens for commuters

After nearly four years of construction, a new parallel Road over Bridge (RoB) at Falaknuma was inaugurated, easing traffic congestion between Chandrayangutta and Charminar. The ₹52.03 crore project significantly improves connectivity for local commuters and tourists alike

Hyderabad: Overcoming inordinate delays and hurdles, a parallel Road over Bridge (RoB) was finally inaugurated at Falaknuma on Friday.

Works for the four-lane RoB began in 2021 and took almost four years to complete the project. The new RoB was built on the Secunderabad-Falaknuma Broadgauge line and cost Rs 52.03 crore.

The 360-metre-long RoB bridge was mainly built to ease the heavy volume of traffic congestion from Chandrayangutta to Charminar. Another major relief is that hundreds of commuters will benefit from reduced travel time and free-flowing traffic towards Barkas junction to Charminar road.

The new RoB will connect Chandrayangutta with major areas, significantly improving connectivity for thousands of tourists visiting Falaknuma Palace and Charminar. The RoB also benefits commuters travelling towards Falaknuma, Engine Bowli, Shamsheergunj, Aliabad, Chandrayangutta, and adjoining areas.

The necessity of the project came to light due to the doubling of vehicular traffic movement.

RoB at a glance

MAUD cleared the proposal for the new parallel Road over Bridge in 2018 and gave administrative sanction. An amount of  Rs 52.03 crore was spent on GHMC civil work, railway scope work, shifting of utilities of HMWSSB and TGSPDCL, and land acquisition.

It provides major relief to traffic at Global School and Kala Matha pilgrimage related to Falaknuma Railway station traffic.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was supposed to inaugurate the RoB but Hyderabad in-charge minister Ponnam Prabhakar inaugurated it.
