Hyderabad: Pickpockets had a field day during the Sri Rama Navami procession in the city on Sunday. Several devotees who had participated in the Sri Rama Navami Shobha Yatra, approached the police and made complaints regarding theft of their wallets, wrist watches and mobile phones.
The organisers had claimed over 2 lakh people participated in the procession, which covered a distance of roughly six kilometres from Seetarambagh temple to Hanuman Vyamshala at Koti.
In Mangalhat police station, according to sources, 25 people have come and made complaints about the theft of mobile phones. Similar complaints were received at Asifnagar, Afzalgunj, Begum Bazaar, Sultan Bazaar, and Shahinyathgunj police stations.
The city police had made elaborate security arrangements for the event by deploying 10,000 policemen for the overall security arrangements while the entire city police was on alert in view of the festival.
The police suspect the gangs from Mangar Basthi Habeebnagar might have mingled with the crowds and committed theft of mobile phones, wrist watches and wallets.
