Prophet remarks row: Country faced embarrassment due to BJP, says Uddhav Thackeray

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the country faced international embarrassment due to comments made by the now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma against Prophet Mohammed during a prime time TV debate.

Addressing a massive rally in Aurangabad on Wednesday evening, the Maharashtra CM said, ” A BJP spokesperson insulted the Prophet. Just as our God should not be insulted, why are you insulting their God? After that humiliation, we had to kneel in front of the Middle East countries. The Prime Minister’s photo was put up on dustbins. We are facing this humiliation. Why should the country apologise when BJP is responsible for this incident?”

Thackeray said, “Balasaheb Thackeray never ever hated Muslims of this country. He imbibed in us the same thoughts. These are the principles of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who respected the Quran.”
