Rahul Gandhi promises to rework GST, consult states

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday asserted that the Congress Party would rework the GST making it simpler and less burdensome. He said that the Congress would also consult the states in the rework.

Interacting with the media persons here on the second day of his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Andhra Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP’s dispensation in the country had destroyed the economy with its two decisions of demonetization and GST. The demonetization had disturbed the lives of the people, while the GST had destroyed the economy of the country.

Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP had destroyed the potential of job creation in the agriculture and the business sectors. The wealth of the entire country is going to a handful of the people while the rest of the nation was destroyed, he said.

He emphasized the need to simplify the taxation for which the Congress is ready. The simplified GST would help small and medium traders on one side and would also be of great help to the farming community who procure seeds to fertilizers paying heavy GST, he asserted.

Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP and the RSS were taking away the rights of the people and were creating conflicts among the people on caste, region, religion and other issues. He emphasized the need to restore peace and harmony among the people and above all question the rulers.

The Congress is giving voice to the people through the Bharat Jodo Yatra, he said and stressed the need to end the BJP rule in the country. He said that his yatra is able to give protection to the people who are being targeted by the BJP-RSS combine on communal lines.

On the Congress Party organizational elections, Rahul Gandhi said that Congress is the only party in the country that holds elections with democratic spirit. He wanted to know whether the BJP or the TDP and the YSR Congress in Andhra Pradesh have such democratic system in place to hold internal elections.

Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress party new president would follow the same principles of freedom and democracy. He also said that the Congress is the only party that speaks for the welfare of the people and ensures that the fruits of development and the national wealth reached the last man in the line.
