Rahul Gandhi slams Vijayvargiya’s statement on ‘Agniveers’: ‘PM Modi’s silence…’

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday questioned prime minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the Agnipath scheme controversy, as he reacted to BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya’s statement that he (Vijayvargiya) would give preference to ‘Agniveers’ if he could hire people to protect BJP’s offices.

“Those who did not hoist the tricolour for 52 years after independence, they cannot be expected to respect our soldiers,” Gandhi tweeted in Hindi, taking an apparent dig at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological mentor of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“Youngsters are passionate about joining the army because they want to protect the country, and not because they want to be chowkidars at BJP’s offices. The PM’s silence is a stamp on this insult,” the Congress MP added.
