Railway police bust drug peddling racket, seize ganja worth Rs 5.1 lakh

In separate incidents the GRP and RPF teams arrest three persons involved in drug smuggling, at Secunderabad railway station

Hyderabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP) along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) teams of Secunderabad division busted a drug peddling racket being operated between Odisha and Gujarat via Hyderabad and nabbed two drug peddlers at Secunderabad railway station on Friday. Marijuana worth Rs 2.1 lakh was seized.

The arrested duo was identified as Mithun Sethi from Surat, a native of Odisha, and Pandav Naik, a labour from Odisha. Police said the suspects took to drug peddling on a commission basis and procuring marijuana from dealers in Odisha, smuggled it to Surat in Gujarat travelling in passenger trains.

They concealed bags carrying marijuana under their seats and reached Secunderabad railway station, where officials caught them during luggage checking.

In another case, a drug peddler from Tamil Nadu was arrested on charges of smuggling marijuana from Visakhapatnam to Chennai and seized marijuana worth Rs 3 lakh.

The drug peddler identified as Aslam from Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, smuggled marijuana from Visakhapatnam to Chennai in trains and sold it to consumers at a higher rate.

The GRP staff nabbed the peddler as he arrived at Secunderabad railway station.
