Rajamahendravaram Medical College to start with 150 MBBS seats
The minister visited Rajamahendravaram on Monday and told the media that a medical college would be set up in every parliamentary constituency.
KAKINADA: Medical Education, Health and Family Welfare Minister Vidadala Rajini said on Monday that the Rajamahendravaram Medical College, being readied at cost of 475 crore, would commence classes from the 2023-24 academic year, with a provision for 150 MBBS seats. She pointed out that 17 medical colleges are being set up in the state.
The minister visited Rajamahendravaram on Monday and told the media that a medical college would be set up in every parliamentary constituency. In the first phase, medical colleges are being constructed in Vizianagaram, Machilipatnam, Eluru, Rajamahendravaram and Nandyala. The government has given the permission to commence classes in the Rajamahendravaram Medical College from this academic year, she said.
The construction works for the boys’ hostels, administrative buildings and medical college class rooms are being expedited, she said and added that the Rajamahendravaram Government Hospital was having 350 beds. This number would further be increased at a later stage, she said.
She said that to repair the medical equipment in the hospitals, the government has signed MoUs with some biomedical companies. She criticised the Telugu Desam, saying that not a single medical college had been sanctioned in the state during the TD term.
She said a drinking water scheme is being implemented at a cost of 700 crore in Srikakulam district and the water is being supplied through pipelines. Kidney patients are being given dialysis and they are also being given pensions.
Rajini inspected the Medical College construction works and the wards in the government hospital. Rajamahendravaram MP Margani Bharat Ram said that the capacity of the government hospital would be increased and funds would be brought from the Union Government for development of the hospital.
Earlier, she along with the BC Welfare Minister Chelluboyina Srinivasa Venugopalakrishna, Rajanagaram MLA Jaggampudi Ramamohan Rao, MP M Bharat, district Collector Madhavi Latha and medical education commissioner Muralidhar Reddy laid the stone for construction of the Mahatma Jyothirao Phule and Dr BR Ambedkar Community Hall, that would be built at a cost of 8.25 crore.
She also inaugurated the Sai Blossoms Hospital in Rajamahendravaram. Venugopalakrishna said the state government spent 2 lakh crore for the welfare of SC, ST, BC and Minorities in the past four years.
