Rajasthan man, 23, dies after wrong blood transfusion in hospital
A 23-year-old man died in Rajasthan’s Jaipur after the wrong type of blood was allegedly transfused to him at the government-run Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital.
The victim, Sachin Sharma, a resident of the state’s Bandikui town, was admitted to the Trauma Centre of the hospital after a road accident in which he suffered severe injuries.
During treatment, a ward boy, posted at the Trauma Centre, allegedly transfused O-positive blood instead of the required AB-positive blood.
Following the transfusion of the blood, both kidneys of the patient developed complications, and he later succumbed due to the alleged negligence.
“The matter came to the fore when Sachin was being attended to at the hospital” news agency PTI quoted the SMS Hospital Superintendent Achal Sharma as saying in the case.
Sharma further said that a special committee has been formed to probe the matter and action will be taken accordingly after receiving the report.
According to the police, no case was filed by the victim’s family or the hospital authorities at the time of publishing of this news report.
Earlier in 2022, in a similar incident, a dengue patient in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj died after he was allegedly given ‘mausami’ juice instead of plasma. The hospital was sealed after the incident and a probe was ordered by the UP government into the case.
