Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’ Suffers A Blow As DOP Walks Out Of Shah Rukh Khan Film Mid-Shoot

After staying away from films for four years, Shah Rukh Khan is making a comeback with three films in a single year in 2023.

But before that, he slowly started making inroads in the theatres with cameos in three films in a span of three months starting with recently released Rocketry: The Nambi Effect

One of the films that he is working on currently is Rajkumar Hirani’s social comedy Dunki which has now suffered a minor blow as it lost its Director of Photography (DOP) midway through the shoot.

Sharing his decision of why he decided to call it quits, cinematographer Amit Roy told TOI, “Yes, I am not doing Dunki anymore. I shot for 18-19 days and quit. Raju Hirani and I had some creative differences. We both couldn’t see from the same angle. But let me tell you that the parting was very amicable. We both sat down and then I quit. Honestly, I didn’t want it to reach a stage of friction.”

He further added that he respects Hirani a lot & “it happens sometimes. I had shot a song in Sanju for Hirani- the Baba Bolta Hai Bas Ho Gaya song. We had a great time then. I have also done a few ads for him. But you see, an ad is a collaborative effort wherein the client’s vision also matters. But when it comes to a film, it is the director’s vision.”

Roy also added that the scenes that he had shot while he was on board Dunki will be retained

After Amit Roy left the film, makers replaced him with Pankaj for the time being before C K Muraleedharan, who has worked with Hirani in films like PK3 Idiots and Lage Raho Munna Bhai came on board.

For the unversed, Amit Roy is known for his work in films like Love Aaj Kal (2020), Sarkar, RGV Ki Aag, Ishq Vishk & Dum Maaro Dum among others.

He has also directed the 2017 film Running Shaadi starring Amit Sadh & Taapsee Pannu.

As for the Dunki, the film also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal & Boman Irani and will release in theatres during Christmas 2023.
