Rampant England set up quarter-finals with France after 3-0 victory vs Senegal in FIFA World Cup 2022

England set up their quarterfinal fixture against defending champions France by defeating Senegal in their Round of 16 match on Sunday, 4 December at the Al Bayt Stadium in Doha. Captain Harry Kane ended his goal drought at the FIFA World Cup 2022 with a strong finish late in the first half of the game. 

It was a good day at the office for Gareth Southgate’s men, who played to their potential once they took control after early jitters at the start of th first half. Goalkeeper Jordan pickford was called in two occasions in the first 15 minutes where he made himself big and did not send the English fans into a frenzy in the FIFA World Cup knockouts. 

Jude Bellingham drove England’s attack in the first half, making good decisions against Kalidou Koulibaly and set helped set up two goals, one for Jordan Henderson to break the deadlock and then for his captain Harry Kane.

It was in unusual stress free game for England as they stood strong, controlling most of the ball. England kept 62 per cent of the possession and had 4 shots on target, three of which they were able to convert. Despite the unavailability of Raheem Sterling, who had to taken off the team sheet due to a personal matter, youngsters Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden showed brilliant promise to help England put a dominating show in the day. 

England will now face a staunch test against France who have defeated Poland in a ruthless 3-1 win. England will take pride from their 3-1 win, and from the campaign that they have had till now in the competition, after a terrible showing in the Nations League, where they were relegated to the second division of the competition.
