Reach out to people, Jagan tells leaders
VIJAYAWADA: YSR Congress president and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has called upon the party cadre to be more active in reaching out to the people under the ‘Gadapa Gadapaku Mana Prabhutvam’ programme.
They must create awareness among the people on the several welfare schemes being implemented by the YSRC government for their benefit, he said.
Addressing the ministers, MLAs and party incharges for the Assembly constituencies and other key leaders at his camp office here on Monday, the YSRC chief said, “We have one year to go for the polls. Our party cadre should become more active and we should use social media to intensify our campaign on the several welfare schemes we are implementing. We can avail the services of Gruha Saradhis in every constituency, as also the secretariat conveners and other functionaries.”
“We have to make every beneficiary of our welfare schemes as a campaigner and we need to avail their services. They can share details of the benefit they got with others. The Gruha Saradhis and secretariat conveners should work together to reach out to every family in every house to explain what good their government is doing in the form of welfare to them.”
The YSRC chief said that the last review held on Gadapa Gadapaku Mana Prabhutvam programme was on February 13. Since then, there was some gap before the present review, and this was due to the poll code for the MLC polls that continued up to March 16, followed by the Budget Session of the legislature and the conduct of the YSR Aasara programme. He called for resuming the programme in an expeditious manner.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said that never before in the history of the country and with the kindness of God, a government could disburse such a huge amount of two lakh crore rupees directly into the bank accounts of families of “sisters” with no discrimination and no graft in less than four years, under several welfare schemes.
He said that, of these, 84 per cent beneficiaries were from urban areas; while 92 per cent from rural areas with an average of 87 per cent families got the benefit.
He said that among the 87 per cent families of the beneficiaries, the eligible persons were identified in a transparent manner by ensuring that no eligible poor should be missed out; this must be ensured even by taking up verification of lists of beneficiaries availing the welfare schemes.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said that families with average monthly income below `10,000 in rural areas and those with below `12,000 from urban areas were identified to be eligible to avail the welfare schemes. “We had even redefined the BPL category. The monthly income ceiling used to be `5,000 in rural areas and `6,000 in urban areas. We have enhanced them to `10,000 and `12,000 respectively.”
The YSRC chief stated that the conduct of Gadapa Gadapaku Mana Prabhutvam programme was completed in nearly 50 per cent of the secretariats in the state covering nearly half of the 15,000 secretariats and felt the need to cover nine secretariats per month by taking up door-to-door campaign 25 days in a month. “Thus, the programme can be completed by the end of August so that we could launch a new programme from September onwards,” the CM said.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “I learned from my father that politics is human relations. I never think of losing an MLA or a party activist. I am introducing several welfare schemes and making you work only with an intention to help you win the polls. Crores of people are depending upon us in the state while lakhs are looking at us in the constituencies. If we fail to work properly, your performance graph among the people will fall and this will cause immense loss to the party and its cadre.”
“If we are not in power, crores of people will be affected and it is for this reason only, I have been asking you to work hard and improve your performance graph among the people as we are going for polls in a year. I want you to take my words seriously and start working hard as it will help your graphs to go up.”
“I have done whatever I could and disbursed huge amounts of money under several welfare schemes by pressing the button. You people should never stop reaching out to the people. When we implement welfare schemes and you people take up intense campaigning about our schemes, the combination of the two will fetch us 175 seats out of 175 in the next assembly polls,” the CM said.
Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that the ‘Jagananne Mana Bhavishyat’ programme will be started from April 7 and it will continue up to April 20. He asked the party leaders to make the secretariat converners, Gruha Saradhis and others, to work together to implement the programme in every house in every village in the state.
The CM announced that the YSRC is going to take up a programme on April 13 with an aim to resolve the individual grievances of the people to ensure that no problem among the people in the villages remains unresolved. He asked the party leaders to even call him up directly and promised them that he would solve all such problems.
Referring to the recently held MLC polls, Jagan Mohan Reddy said that out of polling held in 21 seats, the YSRC won in 17 seats and said each MLC would be having a jurisdiction of 34 to 39 Assembly segments while each Assembly segment would be having 2.5 lakh voters.
He said that it would mean that each MLC seat would be having nearly 80 lakh voters; and of them, 87 per cent were families availing the welfare schemes.
The CM said that all the political parties were united together in the MLC polls while YSRC contested all alone and yet did well. He turned critical on TD that is claiming a big win in MLC polls, saying it was not strength but only a bump.
Notable absentees in the meeting on personal and health grounds included: Minsters Dharmana Prasada Rao, Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, Vidadala Rajani and MLAs Kodali Venkateswara Rao, Nawaj Basha, P. Uma Shankar Ganesh, Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, Alla Kali Krishna Srinvas and Uma Sankar Ganesh.
Jagan Mohan Reddy also announced the start of ‘Jagannaku Chebudam’ programme from April 13, under which party leaders would listen to the grievances of the people and resolve them on the spot. He said that the people could directly report their grievances, especially on ration cards and other issues, to the Chief Minister’s Office through a dedicated phone line.
