
Reliance Jio has been adjudged as the fastest downloads with 258 mbps as found by Ookla
Hyderabad: Reliance Jio has outperformed its competitors in 5G download speed with its average download speed being recorded at 258.54 mbps, says data collected during speed tests conducted by Ookla.
According to a press release issued by Reliance Jio, Airtel secured the second position with 205.1 Mbps. Ookla collected this data from across the country between July and December 2024.
Jio has now earned the title of the fastest mobile network with 5G in India, emerging as the top operator in mobile speed. Jio’s average download speed was recorded at 158.63 Mbps, whereas Airtel’s speed was nearly two-thirds of Jio’s, at around 100.67 Mbps. Vodafone Idea lagged behind in third place with a speed of 21.6 Mbps.
During this period, Jio recorded the highest 5G availability across the country, meaning its network had the widest reach. According to Speedtest Intelligence data, 73.7% of Jio users were connected to Jio’s 5G network most of the time—higher than any other operator. In terms of mobile coverage, Jio ranked first with a coverage score of 65.66, while Airtel followed in second place with a score of 58.17.
While Jio secured the top position in the fastest mobile network and best mobile coverage, Airtel dominated in video streaming experience and 5G gaming. Airtel led with a video streaming score of 65.73. In 5G gaming, the competition between Airtel and Jio was close, with Airtel scoring 80.17 and Jio scoring 76.58, according to Ookla.
