Says a few leaders propagating bad things over loudspeakers but discussing good things in closed rooms
HYDERABAD: That all is not well in the ruling Congress party came into sharp focus again, when Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy took potshots at his detractors in the presence of AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan here on Friday.
Speaking at a party meeting at Gandhi Bhavan, Revanth Reddy used sarcasm to its best when he said good work [done by the Congress] was being shared in whispers, while the bad work, however, was being tomtommed on loudspeakers. “This should be the other way round”, he said eliciting laughs from other Congress leaders who included his cabinet colleagues, party associates and workers.
In one year, the Congress government had filled up over 55,000 government jobs, conducted caste census and there were many other success stories. “But our leaders are not keen on promoting these success stories”, he lamented.
He claimed that the caste census was conducted with 100 per cent accuracy and transparency with self-declared data. Social scientists like Kancha Ilaiah were appreciating the exercise. “On the contrary, a few leaders are propagating bad things over loudspeakers but were discussing good things in closed rooms,” Revanth Reddy remarked.
Such tendencies are likely to damage not only party interests, but also the state government. “Our leaders were failing to counter the opposition parties’ narrative. Prime Minister Narendra Modi keeps boasting about Gujarat model but it was not a successful model. It was only a marketing strategy, the Chief Minister argued.
He reminded that the Congress party had appointed 37 leaders as Chairmen of different corporations in recognition of their services to the party. “At this juncture, I will not point fingers but during renewal of the term, progress report will be presented and action will be taken accordingly,” Revanth Reddy said.
