Royal Family fans left scratching their heads as they notice Viscount Severn, 14, has medals

On Saturday (September 18) the Queen’s grandchildren held an emotional vigil at her coffin. Their parents held one on Friday but the Queen’s 14-year-old great grandson caught the attention of the public.

The son of Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex was joined by his sister Lady Louise Windsor, 18. Eagle eyed royal fans were left scratching their heads when they noticed the impressive medals on his suit.

Being so young many fans were confused as to how he could have acquired them. The medals were gifted to the youngster by the Queen for Jubilee celebrations. They are his Diamond and Platinum Jubilee medals.

James is very rarely seen out in public and so this was the first time he’d been seen sporting the medals. The royal did not wear them during the Queen’s Jubilee and had not been spotted with them at a service held in Westminster Hall on Wednesday.

He looked very smart dressed in a black suit and was visibly moved by the occasion as he bowed his head in respect to this late great grandmother. James’ parents were also at the service and Sophie Wessex looked full of emotion and pride.

The couple were present to support their children during what is understandably an emotional time. The vigil was led by Prince William who was in full military uniform who then led the royals out at the conclusion of the ceremony.

The Queen’s funeral is taking place on Monday (September 19) and James will be one of 2,000 guests at the service. It is currently unclear whether he will form part of the procession behind Her Majesty’s coffin.
