RRR actor Ray Stevenson passes away at 58
Irish actor Ray Stevenson, who played the role of a villain in SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster film RRR, has passed away at the age of 58, his publicist confirmed. However, the cause of his death is uncertain.
Born on May 25, 1964 in Lisburn, Stevenson was the second of three sons. He moved to England at the age of 8 and got enrolled in the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He graduated at 29 and became a regular actor in movies and TV shows since the early 90s.
His breakthrough came with the 1998 film The Theory of Flight in which he played the role of a gigolo tasked to help Helena Bonham Carter’s character lose her virginity. He impressed everyone with his performances in Punisher: War Zone, Volstagg in Marvel’s Thor movies and Kill the Irishman.
After playing the role of baddie in RRR, Stevenson’s final completed film was Accident Man: Hitman’s Holiday co-starring Scott Adkins. He also featured in all 22 episodes of HBO and BBC’s Rome.
He had recently signed up to replace Kevin Spacey in 1242: Gateway to the West where he would have played the role of a Hungarian Priest standing up against the Mongol army.
