RSS had no role in India’s freedom struggle, Savarkar got stipend from British: Rahul Gandhi in Karnataka
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is currently heading the Bharat Jodo Yatra, on Saturday levelled a vile allegation at the ideological wing of the BJP, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and said that the RSS was helping the British and Damodar Savarkar was getting a stipend from the British. Gandhi, who is on the Karnataka leg of the padayatra spoke on a range of ongoing issues including the recent ban on the Popular Front of India, RSS and the Centre’s New Education Policy.
Talking about the Bharatiya Janata Party’s contribution to the freedom struggle of India, Gandhi said that the right-wing party didn’t even exist at the time and had no role in the movement.
“In my understanding, RSS was helping the British and Savarkar was getting a stipend from the British. BJP was nowhere to be found in the freedom struggle. BJP can’t hide such facts. Congress and its leaders fought for freedom,” Gandhi said in Tumkur.
Rahul Gandhi on PFI ban
Gandhi while addressing the ban imposed by the Centre on the Islamic extremist group PFI said that any act of hatred and violence is an anti-national activity and India must fight against such people.
“My view is that it doesn’t matter who the person spreading hatred is, it doesn’t matter which community they come from, spreading hatred and violence is an anti-national act and we’ll fight against such people,” Gandhi said
The Centre on September 22 banned the PFI and eight of its subsidiaries for the next 5 years alleging that the extremist organisation was linked with several terrorist groups and was involved in financial irregularities.
Rahul Gandhi on why he is against the NEP
“We are opposing the new education policy because it is an attack on the ethos of our country, it distorts our history. It concentrates power in the hands of a few people. We want a decentralised education system that reflects our culture.” Gandhi added.
Bharat Jodo Yatra
Rahul Gandhi is currently leading Bharat Jodo Yatra- the 3,500-km march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, covering as many as 12 states. The Padyatra (march), which will cover a distance of 25 km every day, is said to be a game changer for the Congress with eyes on the 2024 General Election.
The march was aimed to cover as many as 12 states in five months. It will be in Karnataka for 21 days before moving north.
