Sarfaraz Khan Reminds Selectors Of His ‘Don Bradman-Like Stats’ After Team India Snub
Team India squads for the New Zealand ODI and T20I series as well as Australia Test series were named on Friday (January 13).
While the selectors tried to cater to the demands of the fans and brought back Prithvi Shaw in the T20I setup, they also named Suryakumar Yadav, who has been in terrific form in the shortest format of the game, and Ishan Kishan, who recently hit a double hundred, were named in the Test team for the first two games against Australia.
The Chetan Sharma-led selection committee, however, gave fans a glimpse of what goes behind the scenes while picking a squad.
The performances in domestic cricket, according to this selection committee, doesn’t count for much and only those who sparkle at the Indian Premier League (IPL) and T20I cricket will get the nod.
Sarfaraz Khan, who has been scoring runs for fun in First Class cricket for Mumbai, was once again ignored and SKY and Ishan who are not even close to Sarfaraz were picked ahead of him.
Disappointed with another heartbreak, Sarfaraz took to Instagram to remind Chetan Sharma and co about his Don Bradman-like stats in First Class cricket to express his frustration over the snub.
In terms of average of batters who have played at least 50 First Class innings, Sarfaraz is only behind the great Australian Don Bradman with an extraordinary average of 80.47.
Bradman, who has a Test batting average of 99.94, averages 95.14 in First Class cricket.
Not just Sarfaraz, even former India cricketers had slammed the decision by the Chetan Sharma-led committee and said that domestic cricket should be the prime criteria for selection.
Prithvi Shaw too had done the same when he was being constantly overlooked for Team India despite scoring tons of runs in domestic cricket.
It looks like expressing frustration on social media is the only way to catch the attention of the current selection committee because their picks suggest that they clearly are not watching any domestic cricket.
