Satellite imagery reveals Kancha Gachibowli forest being wiped out in days

This revelation has reignited outrage among environmentalists, students, and residents who have been demanding an immediate halt to the land clearance

Hyderabad: Destruction knows no bounds… Satellite images of the Kancha Gachibowli urban forest from March 28 and today (April 2) highlight the rapid clearing of the forested land in just a matter of days.

The images, posted by an X user user @watARSHmelon , sourced from Sentinel-2 Satellite (EO Browser, @sentinel_hub), highlight the systematic deforestation, allegedly executed over the Ugadi-Ramzan holiday weekend, which critics claim was a “strategically timed” one to avoid public scrutiny.

“A mere few days and it’s nearly cleaned up. One more night, and it should be gone,” the post on X reads, accompanied by a crying emoji—symbolizing the helplessness of activists and concerned citizens.

This revelation has reignited outrage among environmentalists, students, and residents who have been demanding an immediate halt to the land clearance. Protesters argue that the Telangana government’s actions violate environmental ethics.

Going by the satellite images, with every passing hour, Kancha Gachibowli’s green cover is vanishing, raising questions about governance, accountability, and the price of development at the cost of Hyderabad’s environment.
