Satyendar Jain moves Delhi court to restrain media from airing CCTV clips

The Delhi court also granted time till Monday to Tihar authorities to file a detailed report on the medical report of Satyendar Jain.

Jailed Delhi minister Satyendar Jain on Wednesday moved an application in a special court seeking its direction to restrain media to air or broadcasting any clip of CCTV footage related to him in Tihar jail. Special judge Vikas Dhull said will take up the matter on Thursday.

The court also sought a detailed report from the Tihar jail authorities about Jain’s food and dietary changes if made. The court also granted time till Monday to Tihar authorities to file a detailed report on the medical report of Jain.

Appearing for Jain, advocate Rahul Mehra submitted that despite a hearing on the matter on Tuesday, another footage was leaked on Wednesday morning.

“They have taken a particular day and particular time and shown some major thing is going on in jail. Please test everything. We are not running away. Today one release, tomorrow another release. Does your conscience not prick,” he asked, reported Bar and Bench.

The arguments took place while the court was hearing a plea by Jain accusing the Tihar jail authorities of not providing him basic food items as per his religious belief and also denying him medical check-up.

Earlier on Wednesday, a new video surfaced in which Jain can be purportedly seen having an elaborate meal inside Tihar, a day after the AAP leader claimed in the court that he lost about 28kg weight loss due to inadequate food.

Reacting to Jain’s application, BJP IT-cell head Amit Malviya the move “won’t help”.

“Jailed AAP minister Satyendra Jain’s legal team moving Court to restrain CCTV footages form coming out, means the following:

1. They are trying to hide truth from coming out in public domain.

2. They lied in Court about the massage, home food and other privileges.

Won’t help…” Malviya tweeted.

Already the Opposition made a scathing attack on the AAP after the footage of the minister receiving an oil massage inside his jail cell was surfaced ahead of civic elections. The latest CCTV footage sourced from Tihar jail sources shows Jain getting an elaborate meal in jail.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mehra alleged that Enforcement Directorate was leaking sensitive information to the media despite the order of the court and undertaking given in this court.

Mehra also denied ED allegations of getting privileged treatment in Tihar Jail. He asked, “What privilege are they talking about?”

“I have lost 28 kg in jail. Is this what a privileged person in jail gets? I’m not even getting proper food. What privilege are they talking about? No prison rules are violated if an undertrial is pressing his hand or feet,” said Jain’s lawyer.

However, appearing for ED, advocate Zohaib Hossain denied the allegations made by Jain’s lawyer and said there was not a single leak from the probe agency.
