Savarkar’s kin, Shiv Sena MP file FIR against Rahul Gandhi over ‘mercy letter to British’ remarks
Veer Savarkar’s grandson Ranjit Savarkar and Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale have filed an FIR against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for ‘insulting’ the freedom fighter.
Seeking Gandhi’s arrest, Ranjit Savarkar said it was not the first time that Rahul Gandhi and Congress had insulted Savarkar. “In the past too, they have insulted Savarkar, so we have filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi at the Shivaji Park police station. A woman had made comments against Sharad Pawar and she was kept in jail for a month. Savarkar is a bigger leader than Pawar and hence strict action should be taken against Congress leaders.”
He also shared letters written to the British government by Veer Savarkar and Mahatma Gandhi retrieved from the Government of India archives.
Ranjit Savarkar had filed a complaint against Congress leaders in 2017, in Bhoiwada magistrate’s court. The court had ordered an inquiry but further action was not taken. “Rahul Gandhi is a serial offender and in 2017, too, he made objectionable comments on Twitter. Congress is trying to play vote bank politics using the same agenda of insulting Veer Savarkar,” he added.
WHAT RAHUL SAID
Earlier on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi attended a tribal convention during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in which he said that Vinayak Damodar Savarkar used to take a pension from the British and worked against the Congress.
“In Andaman jail, Savarkar wrote a letter and told the British to forgive him and release him from jail. Veer Savarkar took a pension from the British. He worked against Congress. After coming out of jail, he accepted the British proposal and joined their forces,” said Rahul Gandhi.
Ranjeet Savarkar said, “As Bharat Jodo yatra is not getting publicity, Rahul Gandhi is making such comments to get publicity. He also criticised Shiv Sena (UBT) for not taking a stand on this issue.”
“You can’t take a diplomatic stand when it comes to ideology. Will Shiv Sena leaders welcome Congress leaders at Balasaheb Memorial? The same, Balasaheb, didn’t allow Mani Shankar Iyer to come to Maharashtra to make comments against Savarkar.”
MP Rahul Shewale said “Rahul Gandhi should do Bharat Jodo yatra in Pakistan and Bangladesh. These countries were separated from us because of Congress. What Rahul Gandhi is doing Bharat todo yatra.”
