Narayanpur (Chhattisgarh): Two Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Monday, police said. A large quantity of explosives and several weapons were seized from the site.
The gun battle broke out on Monday morning in a forest in Abhujmaad, near the Maharashtra border, when a team of security forces was carrying out a search operation, a police official said.
“So far, the bodies of two male Naxalites have been recovered from the spot. The intermittent exchange of fire and the search operation are still underway,” the official added. An AK-47 rifle, other weapons, a large quantity of explosives, Maoist literature, propaganda material, and daily-use items were also recovered.
With this action, 249 Naxalites have been killed in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh so far this year. Of them, 220 were killed in the Bastar division, comprising seven districts, while 27 were gunned down in Gariaband district under Raipur division. Two more were killed in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district of Durg division.
On September 11, ten Naxalites, including Modem Balakrishna, a central committee member of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), were killed in an encounter in Gariaband district, police said.
