‘Show proof of apology’: Savarkar’s grandson challenges ‘childish’ Rahul Gandhi
VD Savarkar’s grandson Ranjit Savarkar on Monday challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to furnish proof of Savarkar apologising to British authorities.
Ranjit Savarkar, responding to Rahul Gandhi’s Savarkar remark, said whatever the ex-MP is doing is “childish”.
“Rahul Gandhi is saying he won’t apologise as he isn’t Savarkar. I challenge him to show documents that show Savarkar apologised. On the contrary, he [Rahul Gandhi] has apologised twice to the Supreme Court. Whatever Rahul Gandhi is doing is childish,” Ranjit Savarkar was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
He further said using names of patriots to promote politics is deplorable.
At a press conference over his expulsion from Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said, “My name is not Savarkar, my name is Gandhi. Gandhi doesn’t apologise to anyone”.
This was not the first time Rahul Gandhi had invoked Savarkar’s apology to the British. The Congress leader, during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in November last year, claimed that VD Savarkar used to write mercy petitions to be freed from the Andaman cellular jail and also accepted a pension from the British Raj.
He had even said that Savarkar had helped the British during the independence struggle.
