Sangareddy: Sigachi Industries Limited has initiated the process of distributing ex gratia compensation to the families of those who died in the explosion at its Pashamylaram unit on June 30.
In a press statement on Wednesday, the management said it had issued cheques worth Rs.10 lakh each to the families of 15 of the 46 deceased, in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner of Labour.
Earlier, the company had paid Rs.15 lakh compensation each to the families of eight individuals who remained untraced after the blast. The management reiterated its commitment to paying Rs.1 crore ex gratia to the families of all deceased workers and Rs.10 lakh to those seriously injured.
In addition, Sigachi has paid Rs.1 lakh each to the families of 25 injured employees, apart from providing them free medical treatment. Only three of the injured are still undergoing treatment in hospital, while the rest have been discharged, the statement said.
Managing Director and CEO of Sigachi, Amit Raj Sinha, described the incident as an unprecedented and difficult moment for the company.
“Our first responsibility was to the employees and families affected, and we were taking every step to support them with care and urgency. Our commitment to operational discipline and employee welfare will continue to guide our actions going forward,” he said.
