‘Sitting near emergency exit but won’t pull it’: DMK mocks Tejasvi Surya over IndiGo incident
Taking a veiled jibe at BJP MP Tejaswi Surya after the Indigo airline controversy, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Dayanidhi Maran shot a video near the emergency door. In the video, the MP could be heard saying he would not “pull the doors” as it was not good for the flight.
“I am travelling on an Indigo flight to Coimbatore. I’m sitting near the emergency exit. But I’m not going to pull it because it’s not good for the flight or the safety of the passengers. It also saves a lot of time, and I don’t have to write an apology letter,” said Maran in the video.
BJP’s National Yuva Morcha president, Tejaswi Surya, on December 10 purportedly opened an emergency door of an Indigo flight while on board. However, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia later clarified that it had happened by mistake.
Following the incident, according to eyewitnesses, the cabin crew and other officials had to de-board the passengers before fixing the emergency door and undertaking necessary safety checks, which resulted in a delay of the flight by around two hours.
Tejasvi Surya is said to have apologised to the passengers for the inconvenience caused to them and was also made to file an incident report form by the airlines as standard operating procedure.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai defended his party colleague and said, “he might have accidentally “touched the emergency door” while adjusting the AC vent.
“In the process of adjusting the AC vent, the hands of Tejasvi Surya might have accidentally touched the emergency door. It was not fully opened. The position of the door was disturbed. We alerted the crew about this; Tejasvi was asked to file an incident report form. It was great of him to apologise for the inconvenience caused,” said the BJP’s Tamil Nadu chief.
