Ultra-thermal cutters deployed to remove parts of the tunnel boring machine; reinstallation of loco train tracks under way

Hyderabad: Rescue teams deployed at the accident site in the SLBC tunnel have been tasked with removal of 800 tonnes of steel, mainly from the wreckage of the tunnel boring machine and an equal quantity of debris.

The work gained momentum with the restoration of the operations of the conveyor belt in a full-fledged manner besides further extension of the loco train.

At work in the D1 and D2 locations, rescue teams have deployed ultra-thermal cutters to remove parts of the tunnel boring machine obstructing excavation progress. Four excavators and Bobcats are tirelessly engaged in removing soil and steel. The reinstallation of loco train tracks is also progressing at a rapid pace to streamline rescue activities.

To enhance efficiency, the removal of sludge is being carried out with water jets. Special Chief Secretary (Disaster Management) Arvind Kumar had a review with the teams as well as key officials on Wednesday.
