The anesthesiologists are fully competent physicians and must have a greater role in the treatment and recovery of patients, says SOPPA
Hyderabad: Around 120 anaesthesiologists from across India came together to form Society of Perioperative Physician Anaesthesiologists (SOPPA) in Hyderabad on Sunday.
The SOPPA said the anesthesiologists are fully competent physicians and must have a greater role in the treatment and recovery of patients. They are fully qualified medical doctors with extensive training in the field of anaesthesia, which allows them to manage patient’s medical condition during surgery.
“They are responsible for the patient’s overall medical management throughout the peri-operative period. This practice is in vogue in many countries and should adopted in India,” said Dr Satyanarayana Nuthula, president, SOPPA.
Senior anesthesia specialists including Dr Dr Raja Narsing Rao, Secretary, Dr Kalyani, Treasurer, Dr M Chandrashekar, Dr R Gopinath, Dr P Surendra and Dr Manimala Rao, appealed to the MCI to consider Perioperative Anaesthesiologist, as an equally competent physician.
