Sonali Phogat’s family suspects ‘something fishy’ in her death, seeks CBI investigation
Haryana BJP leader Sonali Phogat’s family on Tuesday refused to believe she died due to a heart attack and suspected something “fishy” in her death. The family also sought a proper investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
While talking to media, Phogat’s sister Rupesh claimed that she had received a call from her the evening before her death. “She said she wanted to talk over WhatsApp & said that something fishy is going on… later, she cut the call and then didn’t pick up.”
Another Phogat sister, Raman said, “My sister cannot have a heart attack. She was very fit. We demand a proper investigation by CBI. My family is not ready to accept that she died of a heart attack. She had no such medical problem.”
Meanwhile, post-mortem examination of the BJP leader, who was declared ‘brought dead’ at a North Goa hospital on Monday, will be conducted at Goa Medical College and Hospital today.
Hours before her sudden death, Sonali Phogat had posted some pictures and videos of herself on Instagram. In the images, she was seen flaunting her pink dupatta.
The Goa Police had on August 23 registered a case of unnatural death after she was declared brought dead by a Goa Hospital.
Sonali, who hailed from Haryana, contested the last Assembly election from Haryana from the Adampur constituency on a BJP ticket against Kuldeep Bishnoi. She also appeared in the reality show ‘Bigg Boss’ in 2020. Sonali is survived by a 15-year-old daughter Yashodhara.
