South Central Railway records best ever performance
SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain told the media that SCR earned Rs 18,973.14 crore in 2022-23, as against Rs 15,708.88 crore in 2018-19.
Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) said it had achieved its best performance in freight as well as passenger segments, generating the highest revenue, as well as in infrastructure in terms of both track addition and electrification.
SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain told the media that SCR earned Rs 18,973.14 crore in 2022-23, as against Rs 15,708.88 crore in 2018-19.
He said the zone had taken initiatives to address the needs of freight customers by developing goods sheds and implementing of tariff and non-tariff measures, which attracted new users. This resulted in the SCR achieving freight loading of 131.854 million tonnes and revenue of Rs 13,051.1 crore. The previous best was in 2018-19: 122.5 MTs and Rs 10,954.69 crore respectively.
Jain said SCR was the first to re-introduce 100 per cent mail express trains in its jurisdiction. This, combined with the continuous introduction of special trains and of coaches had resulted in SCR achieving its best-ever originating passenger revenue of Rs 5,140.7 crore in 2022-23 (previous best Rs 4,089.78 crore in 2018-19) and 255.59 million originating passengers against 127.4 million in 2021-22.
Jain said SCR added a record 384.42 km of track —50.015 km of new lines, 151.486 km of double lines and 182.915 kms of third lines. SCR completed record electrification of 1,016.9 route-kms, the highest by any zone.
He said the SCR upgraded 1,743.42 route-km of track to handle 130 kmph trains, also the highest across all zones. Another highwater mark wsa the commissioned of 66 electronic interlocking systems.
The Lalaguda and Tirupati workshops had periodic overhaul (POH) out turn of 3,046 coaches, Rayanapadu 6,300 wagons.
Along with Jain, R. Dhananjayulu, additional general manager, B. Nagya, principal chief operations manager, K.R.K. Reddy, principal chief commercial manager, Neeraj Agrawal, chief administrative officer, construction, P.D. Mishra, principal chief electrical manger, SCR, participated.
