WARANGAL: IT minister K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday called on students to adopt newer technologies from agricultural colleges, stating that the state would emerge as a role model in agriculture and students as noted agronomists and scientists.

The minister was speaking while inaugurating the college and hostel premises of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agriculture University (PJTSAU) at Jillella village of Thangallapally mandal in Rajanna Sircilla district.

Agriculture minister S. Niranjan Reddy, Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and planning board vice-chair B. Vinod Kumar accompanied the minister on the occasion.

Speaking at the programme, Rama Rao said he observed the Kondapochamma, Mallannasagar, Ranganayakasagar, Annapuran reservoir and Mid-Manair reservoirs filled to the brim.

“Those who act blind, even though they have eyes, are questioning the BRS about the use of the Kaleshwaram project and if the project has supplied water to at least one acre,” he said.

“There is no single irrigation project or reservoir in Telangana region during the reign of previous governments in the united Andhra Pradesh. But, after the formation of Telangana, we are able to supply water to lakhs of acres,” Rama Rao said.

He said that in this context, farmers were hailing expanding KCR as ‘Kalvalu, Cheruvulu and Reservoirs’, claiming that the Chief Minister’s Rythu Bandhu scheme turned agriculture from an unprofitable business.

“The students must develop into industrialists and entrepreneurs. The agri hub, which was established in PJTSAU, also should be established in the new agricultural college in Sircilla along with upgrading the PG college,” he said.

Srinivas Reddy said that the agricultural college, comprising “all kinds of advanced and modern facilities” would become one of the best colleges in the country. “Rajanna Sircilla district is developed in all sectors, under the leadership of K.T. Rama Rao, becoming a role model and a case study for newly-trained IAS officers,” he said.

The Speaker credited Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for development in the irrigation sector. “Cultivable land, which was 1.9 crore acres, increased to 2.3 crore acres because of the efforts of the Chief Minister,” he said.
