In an exclusive interview with Pratyusha Sista, Supraj shared insights about his acting journey, challenges and dreams.
Hyderabad: Hailing from Karimnagar, actor Supraj Ranga has captured attention with his performance as Vickey in the recent release Roti Kapda Romance. The film, which earned praise in theaters and on OTT platforms, showcases Supraj’s versatility as a creative yet rebellious character. In an exclusive interview with Pratyusha Sista, Supraj shared insights about his acting journey, challenges and dreams.
Supraj’s journey into acting started while working as a UX and graphic designer. He frequently collaborated with writers and filmmakers in his co-working space, eventually stepping into a short film role as a substitute actor. This sparked his passion for acting, driven by a desire to overcome an identity crisis and gain recognition.
“The only way to get noticed is when your face is shown, either as an actor or a politician. I cannot be a politician, so I chose acting,” he said.
Supraj takes inspiration from stars like Chiranjeevi, Shah Rukh Khan, and Manoj Bajpai. He also credits his father for teaching him resilience and kindness. His early acting experience includes theater roles, such as a lazy king in the play Ghardhabandam, written by Tanikella Bharani, and film appearances, including Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali, where he portrayed the role of Romeo in a stage play alongside Krithi Shetty.
Supraj’s most challenging roles were a blind man in a stage play and a composed character in the short film Aanandamaye Sakhi. While physically and mentally demanding, these roles helped him grow as an actor. For Roti Kapda Romance, Supraj developed the character Vickey in just four days by listing 29 specific traits and refining his performance through repeated script readings.
Dreaming of exploring genres like mythology, action and comedy, Supraj believes his strength lies in comic timing. His advice to aspiring actors is simple, “Be patient, build connections with writers and directors, and never hesitate to approach them. The industry values persistence and creativity.”
Looking ahead, Supraj hopes to work on family dramas, thrillers and love stories while exploring other aspects of film-making like writing and cinematography.
