Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to set a timeline for the decisions to be taken by the Governors for giving assent to the government bills. He urged the apex court to set timelines for the Assembly Speakers as well to take decision on MLA defections.
Following a petition filed by the Tamil Nadu government against the Governor over pending assent for around 10 bills for more than one year, the Supreme Court had issued directives and set timelines.
Taking to X, Rama Rao said on countless occasions, both the BJP and the Congress had abused the institution of Governor to create hindrances in governance.
“The Supreme Court should also take into cognisance the rampant abuse of constitution by Assembly Speakers and set timelines for them on MLAs defections,” he said, referring to the BRS petition to the Assembly Speaker seeking disqualification of 10 MLAs who defected to the ruling Congress.
