Story Highlights
  • ICC Men's T20 World Cup Group B, Hobart West Indies 146-5 (20 overs): King 62* (48), Delany 3-16 Ireland 150-1 (17.3 overs): Stirling 66* (48), Tucker 45* (35) Ireland won by nine wickets.

The only side in T20 World cup history to win the trophy twice – West Indies have been knocked out of the 2022 T20 World Cup in the group stage after an embarrassing defeat to Ireland. The Irishmen defeated the Nicholas Pooran-led side by a massive margin of 9-wickets with 15 balls to spare.

With both teams coming into the game knowing it’s a winner takes all clash, Ireland stood up to the challenge and outclassed the 2012 and 2016 Champions in all three departments of the game. The Andrew Balbirnie-led side have got the past group stage of the competition for the first time since 2009

Incredible! Ireland, who failed to get past the first round in their last five T20 World Cup outings, have not only made it to the Super 12s but have also knocked the two-time champions out of the competition. Fantastic all-round performance. The bowlers bowled stuck to their plans and the fielders backed it up in the field to restrict West Indies to a < 150 score on a pretty good batting track. Delany starred with a three-fer and all the other bowlers, except Campher, were economical as well. Yes, the target of 147 was clearly below-par and Ireland made a mockery of it…
