Telangana: Adilabad villagers trek long distances to fetch drinking water

Their plight can be attributed to the borewell which dried up and lack of supply of water through Mission Bhagiratha scheme

Adilabad: Villagers were forced to trek for long distances to overcome drinking water crisis caused by lack of supply of water from the Mission Bhagiratha scheme at Thoyaguda hamlet under Ginnera village in Indervelli mandal on Saturday.

Around 30 families residing in the hamlet were relying on water drawn from a borewell dug in a farm. They were now left with no option but to fetch water from sources located in neighbouring villages. Their plight can be attributed to the borewell which dried up and lack of supply of water through Mission Bhagiratha scheme.

Kanaka Lingu, a resident, said that their women were trekking long distances every day to get a pot of drinking water as the hamlet was facing acute drinking water crisis for quite a long time. He requested the officials to take steps to address the challenge at the earliest. He regretted that they were hesitating to invite relatives and to perform functions considering the crisis.
