Stage sit-in in front of the university in protest against GO 21; demand the government to regularise their posts
Nirmal: Contract-based assistant professors who called for a bandh of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT)-Basar, boycotted duties and staged a sit-in in front of the university, in protest against GO 21, on Thursday.
The assistant professors, who tendered en masse resignations to their posts on Wednesday, called for a day-long bandh at the university as part of their protest. They abstained from taking classes and sat in front of the institution. They demanded the government to regularise their posts. They declared that they would not discharge duties beyond teaching.
Devaraj Gurram, an assistant professor, said that they were opposing the government order as it would not benefit the contract-based assistant professors in any form. He stated that they were recruited by the government in the past and played a vital role in the growth of the institution. He added that they were not performing duties other than teaching.
The officials said that 76 assistant professors and 30 teachers including mentors have been working with RGUKT-Basar since the inception of the institution in 2008. Around 50 of them were involved in the administration of the university.
