Telangana: Contract worker injured in accident at Singareni coal mine in Kothagudem

Kothagudem: A contract worker was injured while extracting coal at Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) PVK 5 Incline mine in Kothagudem area on Wednesday night shift.
The worker Jayapal was seriously injured as coal fell on his head. He was rushed to the government hospital to prevent the matter from going public. It was said he needed four stitches for the head injury. The contract company representatives kept the worker at Padmavathi Khani guest house, not allowing him to talk to anyone.
Last month, a contract worker named Madan sustained injuries when he along with another one was lifting a bucket pump that was supposed to be lifted by four people. He had to undergo surgery after sustaining serious injuries and was recovering.
Workers say that accidents were caused as they were told to lift loads beyond their capacity. An aggrieved contract worker recently filed a complaint on the grievance day at the Collectorate. Area Safety Officer Venkateshwarlu Rao told the media that he would investigate the matter.
