Nalgonda: The district judge Roja Ramani on Thursday convicted and sentenced a man to 27 years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 for deceiving a woman under the pretext of marriage.
The convict Nallabothu Jagan of Parvathagiri village had lured a woman with false promises of marriage.
The victim, who became pregnant, filed a complaint after Jagan refused to fulfill his commitments, leaving her and her family devastated.
The police, after conducting a thorough investigation, charged Jagan with multiple offences. During the trial, the court found him guilty on various counts, including rape, fraud, and exploiting the woman, who belonged to a marginalised community.
The judge sentenced the accused to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 fine for the charges of rape, 10 more years of years imprisonment and Rs 1,000 fine for cheating the woman belonging to a Dalit community, and seven years imprisonment and Rs 1,000 fine for deceiving the victim under the guise of marriage.
The sentences will run consecutively resulting in a total of 27 years of imprisonment.
