Hyderabad: After a prolonged wait, a paddy farmer from Nalgonda district, Thota Yadagiri finally received the bonus payment that was pending for a long time for the fine grade paddy procured from him by the State Civil Supplies Corporation.
Frustrated with the inaction of the officials on his bonus dues and the loan waiver, Yadagiri of Ambaripeta village in Shaligouraram Mandal staged a protest in front of Gandhi Bhavan, State headquarters of the ruling Congress Party on Friday last.
He also voiced concern over a promised loan waiver which was not extended to him. He declared that he would not leave the Gandhi Bhavan premises until his demands were met, even if it meant being jailed.
Yadagiri’s plight went viral on social media and it prompted the government to take swift action. The government, which had previously ignored his bonus payment, immediately intervened and credited the bonus amount to his account on Saturday. Yadagiri confirmed the receipt of the bonus payment, stating that the funds for the paddy bonus had been deposited.
Speaking to reporters at the Mandal center on Sunday, Yadagiri emphasised that his loan waiver was still pending. He vowed to meet Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to resolve the issue. Other farmers are now questioning whether they too need to resort to such protests at Gandhi Bhavan to receive their payments. Reports indicate that bonus payments amounting to approximately Rs 47 crores are still pending in the erstwhile Nalgonda district.
