Yadadri Bhongir: Tense situation prevailed in Kolanupaka village of Yadadri Bhongir district of Telangana as water-starved villagers staged a protest and grilled government Whip Beerla Ilayya on the failure of the government to quench their thirst and save their crops on Friday.
Ilayya, who visited the village to inaugurate the paddy purchase centre, met the village people and farmers and inquired about the paddy prospects during Rabi season. The farmers who poured out their woes before him, blamed the government for the poor management of the water resources.
Farmers staged the protest to express their demand for filling local irrigation tanks. They suffered crop losses as the tanks died up at a crucial stage during the rabi season leaving the crop dried up. One of the protesting farmers, Mamidala Anjayya, accused the government whip of being indifferent to the plight of people, especially the farming community.
The verbal exchanges between the farmers and the Ilayya escalated with the latter responding to them reportedly in a harsh manner. In a strong show of unity, the farmers demanded an immediate apology from the Whip. However, they relented with the involvement of the local officials and the police.
